Leaders from the Central Florida Dominican Chamber of Commerce met with the media and public last week to speak about the benefits and challenges facing Dominican businesses in Florida, according to the Dominican Today.
The president of the organisation, Luis Puesan, said: "Our chamber mission is to promote, develop and support business opportunities for Dominican and other Hispanic business owners and professionals throughout the Central Florida region."
According to the organisation, the Dominican Republic is the sixth largest market for US exports in the West and the strong bilateral trade between the two countries is bolstered by the large Dominican community living in the US.
The latest census shows that about one million Dominicans live in the US and they continue to influence the flow of trade between the two countries, says the Chamber of Commerce.
In related news, the Dominican government recently reported an increase in first-quarter revenues of 8.7 per cent compared with the same period last year.
The government's total revenue for the first three months of 2008 came to RD$70.1 billion (£1.06 billion).
"With Florida being located so close to the Dominican Republic and with the amount of Dominican national's in Florida, plus the fact that the Dominican Peso is tied to the dollar, there are many great opportunities for Hispanic business owners to reap the benefits from the developing links and business relationships," Will Jackson, Emerging Earth.
