The Dominican Republic's North Region Industrialists Association (Airen) has called on the government and opposition parties to consider several measures aimed at strengthening the country's economy, it has emerged.

Business leaders based in the Cibao area of the Caribbean country and belonging to Airen said that they wanted politicians to sign an agreement to pursue several proposals, including arranging a deal with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) to help encourage foreign investment, Dominican Today reports.

"These challenges must be assumed by the president, together with all the different sectors in the country to be confronted in all its dimensions," the group of businesspeople commented, according to the newspaper.

An agreement with the IMF could also help increase national production and cut the number of imports into the Dominican Republic.

The Caribbean nation was recently voted by the Latin Business Chronicle as having one of the best climates for business in the region.

"With groups such as Airen assisting the Dominican government in its economic policy generation, the excellent climate for business growth will look to continue.

"As the tourist industry holds such an important place in Dominican economy, this is an area that will surely have a suitable amount of attention given to it. As such, the continual growth of property developments across the island, including the Punta Cana region, is sure to continue," Matt Legg, Emerging Earth.
