The editor of Luxury Travel Magazine has said that the high quality of properties in the Caribbean is "raising the bar of luxury" for visitors to the region.
Alyson Cook commented that holidaymakers travelling to the Caribbean can expect a high standard of accommodation.
She noted that the region is a popular luxury holiday destination and families in particular appreciate it being a good spot to bring children to.
"The Caribbean does score highly because so many of the venues
are all very child friendly," she commented.
An additional benefit for tourists is that "there are plenty of direct flights now to these markets...so you can get a decent flight straight to the destination".
One of the region's most popular tourist destinations is the Dominican Republic, which won the title of the 'Caribbean's Number One Destination' in 2006, which had been awarded to Puerto Rico for the past forty years, according to the country's tourism ministry.
