Tourists seeking a luxury holiday are turning to the Caribbean because of the region's good infrastructure and high-quality properties, according to an expert at Luxury Travel Magazine.
Alyson Cook, the editor of the publication, said countries in the region have invested heavily in their infrastructure, particularly since the Cricket World Cup last year.
Ms Cook noted that the famous novelist Ian Fleming used to live in the Caribbean and his former home, GoldenEye, is now a "boutique property".
She added that the region is a popular destination with UK holidaymakers because of its reliable weather, which is a welcome contrast to the "predictably wet" British autumn and winter months.
An additional benefit Ms Cook highlighted is the ease with which tourists can travel to the Caribbean: "There are plenty of direct flights now to these markets...so you can get a decent flight straight to the destination."
One of the Caribbean's most popular destinations is the Dominican Republic, which received about 1.3 million visitors in the first quarter of this year, according to the country's tourism ministry
