Dominican minister 'encourages' British investors, says DT

The Dominican Republic's foreign affairs minister Carlos Morales has been in meetings with British politicians and business representatives, encouraging them to invest in his country, Dominican Today (DT) has reported.

According to the news provider, the minister met with the Parliamentary Group of Friends in the Chamber of Lords during his recent visit to the United Kingdom and outlined the Dominican Republic's government's plans to maintain economic stability, as well as to address energy and food issues and increase social spending.

This follows recent news the president of the Caribbean nation, Leonel Fernandez, received confirmation from a group of Spanish businesspeople that they are planning to invest 3.7 billion euros (£2.9 billion) in the Dominican Republic's tourism industry over the next four years, according to DominicanRepubliconline.net.

Mr Fernandez was informed of the investment from Majorcan businesspeople while on a trip to Spain where he met with business leaders in Barcelona.
