Dominican tourism up again

The number of visitors flocking to the Dominican Republic's sandy shores has increased again to 7.7 per cent, Dominican Today has reported.
According to the news provider, the ministry of tourism revealed that the Caribbean nation received 1.7 million holidaymakers during the first five months of this year, which is 22,037 more than during the same time period in 2007.
In May this year, the number of tourists was 9.78 per cent higher than in the same month last year, and Canadians seemed particularly to favour the spot as a holiday destination, as the number of people arriving from Canada rose by 21.19 per cent.
Visitors from the US were also more eager to come to the island this year, as their numbers were up by 12.86 per cent, and German tourism grew by 12.78 per cent, the website reported.
The Dominican Republic was recently highlighted by the Sun Herald as a top destination for golf enthusiasts because of its designer golf courses and luxury accommodation.
