The chairman of the Caribbean Tourism Organisation has outlined a number of strategies for Caribbean countries to follow to help them attract a growing number of visitors, it has been revealed.
Senator Allen Chastanet, who is also St Lucia's minister of tourism and civil aviation, called on Caribbean nations to pull together and use their marketing resources in a joint effort to appeal to holidaymakers worldwide, according to Caribbean Net News.
With the economic downturn and spiralling oil prices, there is concern that the tourism industry may suffer.
However, Mr Chastanet has said that by using innovative strategies, the Caribbean can attract visitors in the autumn months of this year.
"We are spending a lot of time talking about bringing Chinese and Russians to the Caribbean, but without the direct airlift, wouldn't it be logical to target their sizable and upwardly mobile expatriate communities in North America and Europe?" he asked.
According to Caribbeanworldnews.com, the Caribbean Tourism Summit to be held later this month will focus on making the region more attractive to investors.
