More Brits 'opting for overseas property'

An increasing number of Britons are upping sticks and moving abroad for guaranteed sunshine and cheaper property.

Many Brits are choosing to extend the traditional two-week holiday to a year or more abroad to escape the gloomy weather – as well as metaphorical economic clouds, according to the Times.

In news that may be of interest to those considering a Caribbean off plan property investment, the 'grown-up gap year' it is becoming increasingly popular with Britons looking for more competitive prices.

The Times points out that "the idea of taking a grown-up gap year appeals to ever more of us – fortysomethings seeking long-overdue career breaks, baby-boomers wanting to make up for lost time, or young families wanting to give their preschool children a taste of foreign life."

According to figures from currency specialists HiFX, Emigration enquiries are up 30 per cent on last year, with actual relocations rising by ten per cent.
