Tourism in Dominican Republic 'increases'
Tourism in the Dominican Republic is on the up, according to new figures.
Dominican Today reports that figures from the nation's Ministry of Tourism show an increase of 6.55 per cent in the number of holidaymakers visiting in the first half of 2008 when compared to the previous year's statistics.
According to the news provider, the largest number of visitors came from the US (32.2 per cent), followed by Canada, France, Spain and Germany.
The statistics also highlighted that the most popular region with tourists was Punta Cana, which could be good news for people thinking of making a Caribbean property investment there.
Commenting on these findings, vice-minister of tourism Magaly Toribio told the news provider that JetBlue's new intra-Caribbean air service which begins in December will further boost visitor numbers.
The new service will operate on a non-stop daily route between San Juan, Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic.
It was previously reported by Dominican Today that data from Statistics Canada has highlighted the popularity of the Dominican Republic with the nation's holidaymakers, with 405,000 selecting it as their holiday destination in the first quarter of this year.
